Shannon Crowley

Voice Faculty | Administrative Coordinator

Hello, my name is Shannon Crowley, and I am an Adolescent and Teen Voice specialist and proud Houston Voice Studio faculty member!

I have always been passionate about vocal and music education as a professional singer and musician. Providing young people with musical experiences and education can be life-changing! From 2017-2020, I served as the head director of Kids on Broadway, a children’s musical theater summer camp program in Virginia. I assisted young musical theater singers in finding their voices, connecting their vocal technique with acting, and preparing for performances. In addition to my desire to help encourage music-making in our communities, I believe that music should be accessible to everyone and has the power to be healing. In 2020, I completed a music therapy internship at “A Place To Be,” where I facilitated and developed a group music curriculum for special education classes.

In addition to developing larger musical theater and music therapy programs, I have also enjoyed operating my private voice studio, focusing on young singers ages 6-16. My primary goals as a voice teacher are to provide my singers with a solid foundational technique to keep them singing healthfully well into their adult years, cultivate their passion for music and the voice, and work with them to find and develop their unique artistic fingerprint.

As a professional singer, I primarily sing classical music and opera. But, I believe that all genres of music can be sung healthily through a functional perspective, and students should sing the music they feel most connected with. I believe in personalizing all lessons and techniques to each student so that we can foster their unique style, providing collaborative and uplifting experiences that put both the student and teacher on a level playing field, and having fun so that we can create a safe space that we can experiment in together!

I enjoy teaching classical voice, musical theater, and pop and am currently working on additional certifications in Contemporary Commercial Music and Adolescent/Teen Voice Development. Working with young singers is a deep passion of mine, as I feel that some of my most artistically fulfilling experiences have been those in which my young students thrive and succeed!

After completing my bachelor's degree in voice performance at Michigan State University’s College of Music, I decided I had enough of the cold and moved to Houston in the summer of 2022 to continue my studies! I am currently completing my Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree at RICE University’s Shepherd School of Music. I have studied vocal pedagogy at both Michigan State University under renowned opera singer Jane Bunnell and at RICE University. I have also trained in the Alexander technique in private and group settings.

As an opera singer, I have placed highly in prestigious competitions, such as the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and the Grand Rapids Opera Competition. I have also enjoyed performing the roles of Giulia in La Scala di Seta, Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea, and Sandra Bloom in Big Fish! I spent this past summer in upstate New York covering the role of Norina in “Don Pasquale” with Opera Saratoga and performing in a world premiere of “The Selfish Giant,” an outreach children’s opera.

When I’m not teaching or performing, I also serve as the administrative coordinator at Houston Voice Studio! I assist in all scheduling, payment, onboarding, event planning, program development, and more!
